How to Set Up Your Hammock in Under 10 Minutes
Everything You Need to Know
Setting up a GetHovr hammock takes less than ten minutes. No special tools, no DIY skills, no frustration. Here's a step-by-step guide for every type of setup.
Hammock with Stand
This is the easiest option. Everything comes in one box.
- Lay out the parts. You'll have the stand frame pieces, the hammock, and the hardware bag. Check everything is there before you start.
- Assemble the base. Connect the two base bars to form an X shape. They usually click or bolt together. Hand-tight is fine.
- Attach the centre bar. Slide the long horizontal bar through the base pieces. This is the spine of the stand.
- Hook on the hammock. Attach each end of the hammock to the hooks or carabiners at both ends of the stand. Make sure the chains or ropes are even on both sides.
- Test it. Sit down gently in the centre first. Adjust the chain length if the hammock hangs too low or too tight. You want a gentle curve, not a straight line.
Total time: about 8 minutes.
Hanging Between Trees
You'll need two solid trees spaced 3 to 4 metres apart.
- Wrap the tree straps. Loop each strap around a tree trunk at about shoulder height. Thread the end through the loop and pull tight.
- Attach the carabiners. Clip a carabiner to each strap. These are included in your hanging kit.
- Hook on the hammock. Attach each end of the hammock to a carabiner.
- Adjust the height. Move the straps up or down the tree to change the hang angle. The ideal hang is when the hammock forms a gentle banana curve about 40 to 50 centimetres off the ground at the centre.
Total time: about 5 minutes.
Hanging Chair Setup
Hanging chairs can go on a stand, a pergola beam, or a ceiling joist.
- If using a stand: Assemble the stand frame (usually 3 pieces that bolt together), then hang the chair from the top hook using the included rope or chain.
- If using a beam or joist: Drill a pilot hole into the centre of a solid beam or joist. Screw in the heavy-duty eye bolt (included). Attach the chain, then hang the chair.
- Add the cushions. Drop in the seat cushion and any extra pillows. Adjust the height so your feet touch the ground comfortably when seated.
Total time: about 10 minutes.
Pro Tips
- Don't overtighten. A hammock should sag, not stretch. A 30-degree angle from the hanging point is the sweet spot.
- Check your hardware. Give every bolt, hook and carabiner a firm tug before you sit in it for the first time.
- Level ground matters. If your stand rocks, move it to a flatter spot or place a thin board under the lower leg.
- Store it when not in use. Your hammock will last years longer if you fold it into the carry bag during heavy rain or winter months.
